Waiting period
A waiting period is a period from the start of a policy during which certain losses or benefits aren’t yet covered. It’s common in health insurance to prevent people from taking out cover for an illness they already know about. The length is stated in the terms.
Examples
With a 6-month waiting period, an employee can only get treatment for an existing condition covered after half a year.
