Indemnity
Indemnity (in Danish, godtgørelse) is financial compensation that doesn’t necessarily match a specific financial loss. It is often paid for non-financial harm, such as pain and suffering or permanent injury after a personal injury. That distinguishes it from compensation, which covers a documented loss.
Examples
An employee suffers a permanent injury in a workplace accident and receives an indemnity payment, even though she keeps her job at the same salary.
