Liability insurance

Liability insurance covers you when you become legally liable for injury to other people or damage to their property. The insurer pays the compensation you are legally obliged to pay and helps assess whether a claim is justified in the first place. For businesses, this is usually covered by commercial liability insurance.

Examples

An electrician accidentally drills into a water pipe at a customer’s premises, ruining the floor. The liability insurance covers the customer’s loss.
